Under Armour (UAA) is ready for battle in the soon-to-be West Coast basketball sneaker wars.
"We think we have the best basketball player on the planet," Under Armour (UAA) vice president of investor relations Lance Allega told TheStreet. Under Armour is the long-time sponsor of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The sharp-shooting Curry will be joined on the West Coast this coming NBA season by Lebron James, who jumped ship from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the L.A. Lakers.
Allega acknowledges Under Armour can't play "moneyball" with the bigger sneaker companies. But, he is confident a more refined approach to rolling out Curry sneakers and improved styling will serve it just fine.
"Curry continues to do very well," Allega says.
Under Armour shares rose more than 4% on Thursday following better than expected second quarter earnings.
