You may know Abigail Adams as the wife of John Adams, the second president of the United States and the mother of John Quincy Adams, the 6th president of the U.S.
But she was way more than that. She actually was a shrewd investor and a powerful voice for women's rights.
And since her husband John traveled so much as president, she ran their household and managed their finances. And while he wanted her to invest their money in land, she realized she could earn a higher rate of return with U.S. government bonds.
Now remember -- this is back in 1777, during the Revolutionary War.
So she bought war bonds, and more than doubled her investment. But those bonds were a risky bet back then because many people were unsure if Congress could afford to make all those interest payments.
(Sound familiar?)
But that risky investing earned her the title of "Stock-Jobber," which basically means she made speculative bets.
Now watch our video to learn more Abigail.
