According to Nerd Wallet's 2017 Consumer Holiday Shopping Report, the average American will spend about $660 on purchases this year. That's actually about the same as they spent last year.

So who spends the most? Baby Boomers spend on average $800. Gen Xers spend about $679 and Millennials follow with purchases of about $434 for the holidays.

So what should you do to save money during the holidays? Well, start with a list and a budget and stick to it.
