Why Blocking Twitter at Work Won't Make More Productive Employees

Don't ban social media, provide cyber hygiene information that helps prevent hacking.

Think blocking Twitter (TWTR) , Facebook (FB) and other social media platforms at work will make your employees more productive? Think again. 

They will do everything in their power to bypass the security restrictions, putting the company's digital network at risk. All it takes is for a hacker to gain access to one employee's social media account and they can seek methods to, "escalate privileges and spread laterally across the company network by scanning for connected devices and accounts, reusing personal passwords against various business accounts and contacting other employees through hijacked accounts."

Instead, companies should use "cyber hygiene" and ensure that company policies cover the acceptable use of social media in the workplace.
