Coca-Cola (KO) is going to be testing Coke solely sweetened with Stevia outside of the U.S. next year, according to CNBC. Coca-Cola Life is already sweetened with stevia and sugar, but there may be a more devoted stevia market that would go for a completely sugar-free option thanks to the growing number of health conscious consumers trying to avoid calories and artificial sweeteners.
In case you were unaware, Stevia is a natural sugar substitute that has no calories, and is 200 times sweeter than sugar.
Other beverages that have jumped on the stevia bandwagon include some flavors of Coca-cola's Odwalla juices and Sprite Green. PepsiCo (PEP) has them in their Sobe Lifewater drinks and Trop50, which is supposed to have half the sugar and calories of regular orange juice. Another soda brand that concentrates on using stevia is (wait for it), called Zevia.
