"We open this up to all universities across the country," said JJ Kinahan, chief market strategist at TD Ameritrade.
Teams of students are given $500,000 of virtual money to make trades in stocks, options and exchange traded funds. But real money prizes are awarded at the end of the four week challenge which ends on Nov. 4.
Kinahan said the program helps to educate students about the markets -- a topic they may not be learning in school.
