President of Mars Wrigley U.S. Tells Us the Worst Advice She Ever Got

Berta De Pablos-Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. has been encouraged by powerful women along the way but did receive some really terrible advice at one point in her career.
By TRACY BYRNES Oct 04, 2017 | 08:18 AM EDT

We've all gotten bad advice along the way but often times we don't realize how bad it is at the tim.

That's what happened with Berta De Pablos-Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S. Even though her mom was an engineer, she is an engineer and many of her managers have been strong women, she was told to "think as a woman, but act like a man." She told us that she didn't realize how wrong that advice was until she tried to follow it.

From that lesson, she shared with us her own advice that she hopes young women will follow.

But we have all been in her shoes.  So tell us. Have you gotten any bad advice that you actually tried to follow only to realize it was completely wrong for you?

Or have you witnessed someone give out really bad advice?

Let us know at alpharising@thestreet.com and we'll share your responses with your fellow readers.
