At least 58 people are dead and 515 are injured after a shooting near the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, according to reports from officials.
Late on Sunday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) confirmed that they were investigating reports of an 'active shooter' and later tweeted that "one suspect is down." Videos and images circulating on social media suggest several dozen rounds were fired from what appeared to be an automatic weapon at the event, with hundreds fleeing the scene.
The suspect has since been identified by police as Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada. Paddock killed himself in a hotel room after allegedly targeting concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip during a performance by country-and-western artist Jason Aldean just after 10 p.m. local time, police said.
According to the sheriff's department, Paddock has no known connection to terrorist groups, though Isis has claimed responsibilities according to multiple reports.
