Amidst the unprecedented destruction of Hurricane Harvey, many celebrities have been stepping up to the plate to donate massive sums to relief efforts. While some celebrities like Sandra Bullock (who is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross) have roots in Texas, many are doing it simply because it's the right thing to do.
Bullock has long worked with the Red Cross and owns a home in Austin, Texas. She told Time Inc. (TIME) owned People magazine that the storm could offer a means for the U.S. to come together regardless of current political divides. "There are no politics in eight feet of water," Bullock said. "There are human beings in eight feet of water."
Other celebrities that have donated include J.Lo and A-Rod, Kim Kardashian, Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, Chris Young and JJ Watt.
Despite the president's promise of no stimulus until after Nov. 3, there are no signs yet that this is the sort of correlated selling that leads to a deep correction.
