The Dow Jones Industrial Average held losses through the morning, even as the rest of the market pared lows or turned higher. The blue-chip index is on track to close out March with its first monthly loss since before the U.S. presidential election. Manufacturing activity in Chicago unexpectedly improved in March, according to the latest Chicago PMI. The measure's first quarter was its best since the fourth quarter of 2014. Production levels in March were at their highest since the beginning of last year. Consumer sentiment edged up in March, though not at the pace economists anticipated. The index was at its highest in January since 2004. DuPont (DD) has agreed to swap some assets with FMC Corp. (FMC) in a deal worth around $1.6 billion. It's part of DuPont's compliance with the EU as it merges with Dow Chemical (DOW) .
