New challenges for farmers arise as California emerges from a historic drought. 42% of California has emerged from the drought, according to last week's U.S. Drought Monitor. Dry weather cut jobs, reduced crops and forced some farmers into bankruptcy. Filings for protection from creditors under Chapter 12 rose 28% nationwide in the first half of 2016. Farmers are also selling land due to fears of the financial effects of increased environmental regulations.
