Vincent Viola is a former U.S. Army infantry officer in the 101st Airborne and the founder and executive chairman of Virtu Financial (VIRT) . President-elect Donald Trump has selected Viola as his nominee for the Secretary of the Army.
Viola is a graduate of West Point. He owns the NHL's Florida Panthers franchise, which he bought in 2005 for a reported $250 million. Forbes estimates Viola's net worth at $1.79 billion.
Viola began his career in business in 1982 as a trader in the New York Mercantile Exchange. He rose to be vice chariman of Nymex from 1993 to 1996 and was chairman from 2001 to 2004.
Viola founded the electronic trading firm Virtu Financial in 2008. It went public in April 2015.
