American International Group (AIG) shares were lower Thursday after the company's third-quarter financials were released. The insurer reported operating income of $1.00 a share, missing consensus estimates of $1.21. On the bright side, earnings were up 92.3% year over year. Pretax operating income also increased 23%, year over year, to $729 million. It was driven by higher returns on alternative investment income.
