Alaska Air (ALK) makes it official, it has clinched the deal to buy Virgin America (VA) . Alaska bested rival JetBlue (JBLU) . The sales price is $2.6 billion. If the deal is approved by regulators, it would created the 5th largest airline in the United States. West Coast airports like Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, would feel the impact the most. Tesla (TSLA) Motors says orders for its new Model 3 electric sedan topped 253,000 in the first 36 hours. The company's first mass market vehicle would not be available to buyers to another 18 months-at least. The Tesla Model 3 will sell for around $40,000, depending on additional features. The total number of orders totals $10.6 billion. Staples (SPLS) is offering to freeze prices for 3 years to get the merger with Office Depot (ODP) done. The New York Post says it told a judge it was open to that compromise to win regulatory approval of its $6.3 billion deal.
