U.S. stocks surged in midday trading as oil prices bounced back Tuesday. Energy stocks were the best performing S&P 500 sector. Stronger earnings reports also gave markets a lift. 3M (MMM) moved higher after it managed to beat earnings despite a strong dollar. Sprint (S) also was a stronger gainer as the company’s loss wasn’t as bad as some analysts had expected. The company also said its revenue had stabilized. Luxury goods maker Coach (COH) rose on better than expected earnings. Coach said it continues to see improvement at its stores in North America. All eyes will be on Apple (AAPL) after the closing bell, when the company will report its quarterly results.
