Stocks ended Monday mixed as fears heading into tomorrow's Federal Reserve meeting kept trading choppy. While an October hike isn't expected, a December move is still in play. Apple (AAPL) fell ahead of its earnings report out Tuesday afternoon. Shares were lower after the company's supplier Dialog Semiconductor released weak preliminary results for the quarter. Crude oil closed at its lowest level since late August. Commodity traders feared China's move to cut rates meant that the world's second-largest economy was suffering slower growth than expected. Piedmont Natural Gas (PNY) spiked after agreeing to be acquired by Duke Energy (DUK) for nearly $5 billion. Duke, the largest U.S. power company by capacity, paid a 40% premium to Piedmont's Friday close.
