Altera (ALTR) was the best performer on the S&P 500 Monday following reports the company has reopened negotiations with Intel (INTC). Altera kicked off a rally among chipmakers, including Symantec which helped its shares recover from an earnings-driven sell-off last week. Endo Pharmaceutical (ENDP) lagged the S&P 500 after it agreed to buy privately-held Par Pharmaceutical Holdings to create on the of largest generic drugmakers in the U.S. But it was Apple (AAPL) that headlined the session, gaining more than 1% after activist investor Carl Icahn gave another vote of confidence to the world's largest company.
