The process of growing, cultivating and harvesting marijuana is closely monitored by the state. Every plant is accounted for as required by the law. For example, at Gaia's growing facility on 39th AVenue and Holly Street in Denver, a tracking system developed by an aerospace engineer tags the stages of growth for each plant. All of the information is then uploaded to a government required website. Even though consumers smoke only the flower, trim is just as important to the state. it's used for extractions. Marijuana plants typically grow from 90 to 120 days. When it's time, the entire plant is harvested. The top buds are dried into smokable flowers while the middle third to the bottom of the plant is run through extractions to collect the oil glands to make ancillary products such as hash and edibles.
