The Dillard Shoop, Again!

Here I go, here I go, here I go again (again?) -- Shoop, Salt-N-Pepa I reestablished my long in Dillard's last week at less than $73, and the stock is getting jiggy now. It's up 2.3% at $75.18 as I write this. Here we go again!

The DDS Buy Zone

As promised, Dillard's reached my buy zone under $73 (I sold some off last week at $79) and I added and moved back to medium-sized.

DDS Update

Yesterday, with trading at over $79, I moved from medium-sized to small-sized. Today the shares are down by nearly -$3 to $76.25. I would reload at $72-$73.

Lots of Research on New Ideas

With about 25 minutes to go in the trading session Mr. Market bent a bit but didn't break. With exception of a sale (moving me from medium-sized to small-sized), I did no trades today - just a lot of research on new ideas. Thanks for reading my Diar...

Dillard's Is DiLovely...But Taking Some Profits

I have moved back down from medium-sized to small-sized this morning in light of the +10% rise from my recent new purchase. DDS was initially put on my Best Ideas List in June, 2017 at under $51. Its now trading above $79. I have made five trades in...

Dillard's Keeps on Giving

Dillards , trading at $78.40, is now well off the lows (and purchases) at around $72-$73 in mid- August. This retailer is the gift that keeps on giving -- after having traded it for well over+$80 in cumulative gains in the last year. DDS was added t...

DDS, M Keep Chugging Along

Speaking of retail, Dillard's and Macy's (my two retail investments) are chugging along again today. DDS is +$6 off the lows on Tuesday and M is now +7% off lows of that day.

DDS, M Being Swept Up

and  are being swept up by a strong retail sector this morning. DDS is now +$5 from yesterday morning's lows and M +5% from those levels. I believe they could have much further to go on the upside.

The Day in a Nutshell... Thus Far

Dillard's is DiLovely, Northrop "Knocks Four Times" (+$4), Nvidia Erupts (I covered down on the day, now +$7), Netflix Emerges from a Downtrend (+$13), Nazzies Still Nasty, Box was Heavy Now Lighter, Nike Nice (on two upgrades), Apple's "Up" Skein A...

Today's cost basis on is about $72.95.

Reinitiating Small Long in Dillard's

As promised, I reinitiated a small long investment in Dillard's at $73.75 just now.

Dillard's Should Be Weaker Over the Short Term

* But this is a solid long term holding * I am a buyer in the mid to high seventies For the fourth time in four quarters Dillard's beat sales and EPS consensus forecasts. The only blemish, which should hurt the shares over the near term, is a $80 mi...

My Buy List

Here is my buy list of stocks that I plan to aggressively buy in a more sizable market correction: , , , , , , , , , , , , , and .

Reflecting on the Day's Price Action

*Not eventful The key feature today was the breakout to the upside in retail stocks - and made multi point moves. (Both are on the Best Ideas List). Interest rates rose modestly, crude oil dipped and gold had a small rise. FANG has been reduced to G...

Macy's, Dillard's Lead the Retail Pack

Retail continues to be the world's fair with Macy's and Dillard's (both on Best Ideas List) leading the pack.

China Is Feeling the Sting From This Trade War: Market Recon

China's National Bureau of Statistics released weak July numbers yesterday.

At the Bandstand

"Let's be very careful out there."    - Sgt. Esterhaus, Hill Street Blues Markets closed near the day's lows - completing a four-day losing streak for the S&P Index. Downside leadership was seen in banks (contagion concerns rather than rate concerns...

About Those Dillard's Takeover Rumors

Dillard's (+$4) is getting jiggy on vague takeover rumors (drafting from the Tesla news?). DDS was placed on my Best Ideas List at $50 in June, 2017. The shares are currently at $86/share. I am a sub $78 buyer.

Retail on the Downside

Retail is a clear feature to the downside. (I recently sold out my and longs at nice prices - and have no exposure, long or short). This is not surprising considering the 2-3 month decline in real wages - and the adverse impact of rising commodities...

Back Buying Macy's

Macy's has fallen from its high of about $41 to $36.80 in the last month. I sold out at excellent prices (as high as $40.40) and I have begun to buy (small) on a scale lower. I have made 3-4 position trades in this name - and I am trying to replicat...

Volatility Is the Market's Mainstay

gets jiggy, is the 'world's fair' and has no bottom to it. And volatility is the market's mainstay.

Why I Do What I Do

Over the last few weeks I have sold a number of my longs including (but not restricted to) all of my Dillard's , Macy's and Twitter holdings. I have reduced the size of some others (e.g., Box ). At the same time I have added to some longs (Procter &...

What Starbucks Illustrates About My Diary

I mention Starbucks at the end of the day not to pat myself on the back but to write that this short illustrates what I try to deliver in my Diary.   I am a contrarian more than I am a Bear - and there is a distinction. My goal in my Diary is to del...

Midday Assessment

Some midday observations: * Dillard's is back on a tear (+$3.40) in an only slightly better retail tape. (I am out of the name but it remains on my Best Ideas list because I want to buy weakness). * FAANG  -- Facebook , Amazon , Apple , Netflix and ...
