J.B. Hunt Transport Services ( JBHT) was geared to the upside Wednesday as traders react to a positive freight forecast for the logistics firm. Let's check out the charts and indicators.
In this daily bar chart of JBHT, below, I can see that shares of JBHT have been in a sideways trend since April. Prices have traded above and below the 50-day moving average line. JBHT is currently above the rising 50-day moving average line and above the still declining 200-day line. The trading volume shows a slight decline from September instead of a rise.
The daily On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line shows a rise from October followed by a neutral December. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator is just below the zero line in sell territory.
In this weekly Japanese candlestick chart of JBHT, below, I see a mixed picture. Prices are trading above the 40-week moving average line but I cannot ignore the large upper shadow above $190 in December. This is a dramatic looking rejection of the highs by traders.
The weekly OBV line shows strength from September. The MACD oscillator is holding just above the zero line in positive territory.
In this daily Point and Figure chart of JBHT, below, I can see a potential upside price target in the $206 area.
In this weekly Point and Figure chart of JBHT, below, a longer-term price target in the $222 area is being projected.
Bottom line strategy: The charts of JBHT show improvement but just not enough improvement to want to recommend purchase just yet.
