Build-A-Bear's Stock Does Not Look Warm and Cuddly

The shares have struggled to make gains the past 12 months.

Stocks quotes in this article: BBW

Unless you had a deprived childhood you probably had a teddy bear back in your formative years. The story of the Teddy Bear is endearing but I want to just look at the charts of Build-A-Bear Workshop ( BBW) to see if this "comfort toy" can work higher on the charts or not.

In the daily bar chart of BBW, below, I can see that the shares have struggled to make gains the past 12 months. BBW has spent a majority of its time trading sideways. Prices are above the rising 50-day and the rising 200-day moving average lines but not all that far above.

The trading volume is neutral. The On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line has followed the price action and is not all that robust.

The trend-following Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator has been correcting lower since July.

In the weekly Japanese candlestick chart of BBW, below, I see a mixed outlook. The shares have risen over the last three years but that is backwards-looking. The three most recent candle patterns show us upper shadows and that tells me that traders are rejecting the highs.

The weekly OBV line has been neutral since early 2021 and now shows me a bearish divergence when compared to the price action. The slope of the 40-week moving average line is positive but this is a lagging indicator.

The MACD oscillator is above the zero line but its movement is likely to generate a bearish divergence when compared to the price action.

In this daily Point and Figure chart of BBW, below, I can see an upside price target in the $54 area but a trade of $31 is needed to refresh the uptrend.

In this weekly Point and Figure chart of BBW, below, I can see a price target in the $54 area. Again, a trade of $31 is needed to refresh the uptrend.

Bottom-line strategy: My six grandchildren are growing up fast and need things like a tennis racket and sheet music instead of a teddy bear so I am not going to lift demand. The charts of BBW are not "warm and fuzzy" so let's look elsewhere for trading ideas.
