Peloton Still Forgets How to Ride a Bike

The shares took another hit today after sinking the past 12 months.

Stocks quotes in this article: PTON

Peloton Interactive (PTON) is under pressure by bearish traders on the heels of the news that their co-founders have resigned. I wonder what employees in the breakroom are talking about when the founders jump ship? Morale must be terrible.

Let's check out the charts.

In the daily bar chart of PTON, below, we can see how the shares have sunk the past 12 months. We used a log scale to see the details. Prices have been chopping around the $10 area the past three months or so.

Unfortunately the trading volume is not increasing on up days and the On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line shows only minimal improvement from July. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator is hugging the zero line telling us there is little in the way of "trend strength."

In the weekly Japanese candlestick chart of PTON, below, we see a weak picture. Prices are in a longer-term downtrend and trade below the negative 40-week moving average line.

The weekly OBV line shows weakness the past two years. The MACD oscillator is below the zero line.

In this daily Point and Figure chart of PTON, below, we can see a nearby downside price target of $8.50.

In this weekly Point and Figure chart of PTON, below, we can see a price target of $15.50.

Bottom-line strategy: Peloton makes a good product but the stock is in trouble and traders should avoid the long side of PTON.

Is this becoming a 'single issue' market singularly focused on yields? That will eventually change, but the turning point seems a bit away.
