Krispy Kreme Inc. ( DNUT) reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for its fiscal first quarter here on Wednesday morning, but the downtrend in the doughnut maker's share price and a trend toward healthier food choices could still get the upper hand in the weeks ahead. Let's check out the charts and toppings of Krispy Kreme.
In this daily bar chart of DNUT, below, we do not yet have a full 12 months of price action but the trend since lasty July is down. Prices trade below the declining 50-day moving average line and below the recently added 200-day line. The trading volume does not show anything worth noting, but the On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line shows a decline the past 10 months, telling us that sellers of DNUT have been more aggressive. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator has been in bearish territory since the middle of January.
In this weekly Japanese candlestick chart of DNUT, below, we see a limited picture but it is still bearish at this point in time. Prices are in a downtrend. No lower shadows and bottom reversal pattern. The slope of the 40-week moving average is negative. The weekly OBV line is pointed lower and the MACD oscillator is bearish.
In this daily Point and Figure chart of DNUT, below, we can see a nearby downside price target of $11.
In this weekly Point and Figure chart of DNUT, below, we can see the software is projecting the $9 area as a potential price objective.
Bottom line strategy: Everything in moderation is the saying. Can we enjoy a Krispy Kreme donut once in a while? Sure, why not? (Maybe check with your registered dietitian first.) Can we go long shares of DNUT? That would not be my recommendation at this point in time.
