Let's check out a few charts on these names.
In the daily bar chart of GILD, below, we see a positive/neutral picture. Prices have been moving sideways for the past three months. GILD has crossed above and below the 50-day moving average, which now shows a negative slope. Prices are above the rising 200-day moving average line.
The daily On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line is neutral the past two months but shows a rising trend the past 12 months. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator is just above the zero line in buy territory.
The big picture of the price action still reminds me of a very large equilateral triangle.
Strategy: I still favor the long side of GILD and would risk a close below $72.
In the daily bar chart of REGN, below, we can see a stock that only knows one direction -- up. Prices are just now testing the rising 50-day moving average line. The 200-day moving average line naturally has a positive slope and is well below the market.
The OBV line has been neutral the past four months and is actually diverging bearishly from the price action. The MACD oscillator shows a weakening pattern of lower highs from March but the indicator is still above the zero line. If someone worried about these divergences and sold they would have missed a big rally.
To date the pullbacks in the price of REGN have been relatively shallow and definitely short-lived. I would anticipate new highs in the weeks ahead.
Strategy: I favor the long side of REGN but only buy new highs because I do not know how low prices might correct in the short-run.
In the daily bar chart of LLY, below, we can see that prices have been strong since November. Prices (for now) are above the rising 50-day moving average line and above the rising 200-day moving average line.
The OBV line has been in a decline since early February so I am scratching my head a bit. The MACD oscillator is in a take profits mode for now.
Strategy: The major trend of LLY is up and that is more important than short-term jiggles. Longs should risk a close below $155.
