Chinese search engine company Baidu Inc. ( BIDU) is looking constructive on its charts. Let's review the patterns and indicators.
In this daily bar chart of BIDU, below, I can see that prices have tested the $160 area a number of times in February and March. The broad market averages here and abroad were weak during those months, so it is not a surprise that BIDU stalled and pulled back. Now the global marketplace is stronger and I expect BIDU to break out to the upside. Prices trade above the rising 50-day moving average line and above the rising 200-day moving average line. The On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line has been steady since December. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator is above the zero line and turning higher for a fresh outright buy signal.
In this weekly Japanese candlestick chart of BIDU, below, I can see a large bottom formation on the chart with a key neckline across the $160 level. Prices trade above the rising 40-week moving average line. The weekly OBV line shows strength from October. The MACD oscillator is bullish as it sits above the zero line now.
In this daily Point and Figure chart of BIDU, below, I can see the software is suggesting the $185 area as an upside price target.
In this weekly Point and Figure chart of BIDU, below, I see the software has come up with a $215 price objective.
Bottom line strategy: I have traveled to Taiwan and Hong Kong but I have no special knowledge of China. Despite this drawback, I find the charts of BIDU bullish. Traders could go long BIDU at current levels risking to $140 for now. Add to longs above $160 -- the neckline. The $185 area is my first price target for now.
