Consumer products giant Procter & Gamble ( PG) is scheduled to report its latest earnings before the open of trading Tuesday. We all know many of the PG products but the chart picture may not be firmly in our minds. Let's check.
In this daily bar chart of PG, below, we can see that prices are starting to show some improvement. Prices have been in a downward trend since January/February. We can see three distinct "legs" lower to an October low. Prices are still below the declining 50-day and 200-day moving averages. The trading volume has been increasing since the middle of August suggesting increased interest from traders and investors.
The On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line shows a long decline to an October low. The 12-day price momentum study shows equal lows from September to October when prices made lower lows. This is a bullish divergence and can sometimes foreshadow a trend change.
In this weekly Japanese candlestick chart of PG, below, we can see a bullish clue or two. Prices look like they have made a spinning top pattern and this can be the start of a bottom reversal. A follow-on bullish candle (white real body) is needed this week.
The weekly OBV line shows a small improvement in early October. The MACD oscillator is bearish but has started to narrow which is how crossovers start.
In this daily Point and Figure chart of PG, below, we can see that prices reached a downside price target of $123.
In this second Point and Figure chart of PG, below, we used weekly price data and here too the chart shows that prices reached a downside price target in the $123 area.
Bottom line strategy: I have no special knowledge of what PG may tell shareholders on Tuesday but the overall sense I get from the charts and indicators is that some sort of upside move is possible.
