Stocks quotes in this article: APD

Air Products and Chemicals (APD) is rallying today after reporting their "just okay" Q4 numbers and raising their guidance for next year's earnings. Let's check in with the charts and indicators for their story.

In this daily bar chart of APD, below, we can see that prices corrected to the downside from July to early October. Prices based in October and this month have exploded to the upside. APD dipped down towards the rising 200-day moving average line last month and now prices are well above that line. APD has recently rallied above the bottoming 50-day moving average line as it is in a position to make a new high close.

The daily On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line moved sideways for four months but just turned up to a new high to confirm the recent price gains.

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator turned up for a cover shorts buy signal last month and it is now crossing the zero line for an outright buy notice.

In this weekly chart of APD, below, we can see a positive alignment of price and indicators. APD is above the rising 40-week moving average line.

The weekly OBV line has turned up after a decline from July signaling that buyers are becoming more aggressive.

The MACD oscillator turned down in August for a take profits sell but this indicator has been narrowing lately and could shortly cross back to the upside a new buy signal.

In this first Point and Figure chart of APD, below, we can see the recent upside breakout and a $247 price target.

In this second Point and Figure chart of APD, below, we used weekly data and came up with a $383 price target.

Bottom line strategy: Traders could go long APD here risking below $220 for now. $250 and then $300 are our price targets.
