Guy Ortmann

Guy S. Ortmann, CMT is Director of Research and Senior Technical Analyst at R.F. Lafferty & Co. Inc.

He has built an impressive investing track record over the last 35 years using a combination of technical and fundamental analysis to find timely and profitable U.S. macro equity market and stock/commodity specific ideas for institutional and high net worth clients. His research has been published in many high visibility Wall Street publications.

Ortmann is a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) and holder of multiple Series licenses including the 7, 63, 24, 86, and 87. His formal study in technical analysis included two years at the New York Institute of Finance with Alan Shaw, former head of technical analysis at Smith Barney.

He believes that both technical and fundamental analysis are absolute requirements for consistent portfolio performance. As he describes it, “using only one or the other is the equivalent to driving at night with your headlights off.”

When Ortmann isn’t providing financial analysis for Real Money members, he can be found fly fishing or adding to his collection of antique English sports cars.
