I felt the same way after listening to Home Depot (HD) yesterday, even as it is not thought of as a Christmas play.
These companies continue to remind us of what Manny Chirico, CEO of PVH Corp. (PVH) , told me a few weeks ago: best holiday season in four years.
There was a moment in the Lulu call last night when CEO Laurent Potdevin told us that the new flagship New York store on Fifth Avenue has instantly become the best performer of the entire chain. That's another tell -- a tell that everyone from Macy's (M) to Tiffany (TIF) could be having a very good holiday season.
Dollar General? Why does that matter? These stores and Dollar Tree (DLTR) stores have become go-to for holiday spend. The fact that sales are that strong again tells us this is could be a very exciting time in retail.
Why don't people believe it? Simple: we are too down. We don't know what's really happening. There is a Wall Street malaise about things consumer. Maybe it's geographic.
Somehow, I think that if Wall Street were based in Texas, we would be hearing about great sales even in the mall. LULU's mall numbers are terrific. It's not all Amazon (AMZN) . It's pretty much everyone.
