Does United Technologies (UTX) really think, in this day and age, that it can just announce a CEO (Louis Chenevert) is leaving, and that another one has been appointed without any explanation, and get away with it?
As a spoof, I decided very morning to announce on air that I wholeheartedly report a mystery approach to a CEO leaving and a new one being appointed. I said this is the way it should be done. Quickly, with no explanation whatsoever. It's what shareholders -- including my Action Alerts PLUS trust -- really want. A genuine whodunit, a major secret.
There. I did it, United Tech. You got away with it, and I praised you for it. Let me go on. I really liked how the CFO just landed the job. Very smooth to put in Mr. Gregory "Greg" Hayes. Smooth. Even better, not at all telegraphed. Terrific choreography worthy of A Star is Born.
If United Tech gets away with this, I totally salute it. The company will have turned itself into a small family business that keeps it all in the family.
Well done! Just what we wanted!
How's that, United Tech? Good enough?
