We made it to the summit of retail earnings season and survived yet again. You know old age is creeping in when reading transcripts of earnings calls at 2 a.m. becomes tiresome (it never used to be). Ahead of the long weekend, I want to share pictures of things I passed during my latest mountain climb.
Best Buy's Repurpose
We are witnessing something very, very interesting at Best Buy (BBY) that could be used as a template for other retailers that have implemented ship-from-store capabilities for online orders (Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) and Macy's (M) are others). These stores are seeing much stronger online sales as consumers are assured of inventory being in stock at the lowest possible price. Suddenly, large-box stores resemble distribution centers that so happen to sell merchandise to people who walk in off the street.
Ship-from-store is shaping up to be a formidable threat to Amazon.com (AMZN), as large-box retailers clearly outnumber the online giant in the number of distribution centers -- whoops, I mean retail stores.
Check out how this new capability is leading to sales acceleration at Best Buy.
