Mosaic (MOS) made a dramatic run up and peak in the 2007 to 2008 commodity melt-up. MOS made a lower high in 2011. Like commodities, the peaks have been quick and sharp affairs, but a bottom in MOS is likely to take much longer to develop.
In this daily chart of MOS, above, we can see a modest February-March price recovery for MOS. Unfortunately, the improvement proved to be temporary as prices have retreated, and the On-Balance-Volume (OBV) line has turned down along with the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) oscillator. The 200-day moving average volume line is still pointed lower. Prices of MOS rallied above the 50-day line and have since moved back below it.
In this weekly chart of MOS, above, we can see that prices and the 40-week moving average line are pointed down. The OBV line is weak and the MACD oscillator is narrowing towards a possible sell signal. Bottom line: With weak technical signals on the daily and weekly charts, we would look for more price weakness ahead.
