What if social media was the new leader? What if Facebook (FB) and Twitter (TWTR) and Google (GOOGL) got out front and took us higher?
I postulated on the what-ifs yesterday and sure enough we have a big one playing out. The story in the papers this morning about Facebook perhaps becoming your newspaper of record is something I always thought I would see if Facebook were to assert its influence, because whole journalistic enterprises have been built from Facebook leads and Facebook referrals.
Now Facebook is flexing its muscles. Think of it. In the last year, Facebook has said it wants to be your place for sports with its NFL video clips deal. It wants to be your bank as we just learned. And now it wants to be your newspaper of record.
It all works for me.
Then Twitter's busting out and I have to tell you that I think it, too, can be your personal newspaper of record. You can follow what you want and it could be huge.
In the meantime, what can I say about Morgan Stanley (MS) CFO Ruth Porat leaving for Google other than she will lend a rigor to the spend at Google that few can. She is tough and smart and knows the space. (See our Action Alerts PLUS note on this move by Porat).
Tech's being crying out for leadership away from the semis.
Here we go!
