I am still reeling from Sen. Harry Reid's comments about how there's no real progress in the talks. No, I am not reeling because there's no real progress, I get that. I am reeling because if you want to kill whatever NASCENT progress there is on solving the fiscal cliff you do what he did today, which is blab about how it's not going well.
Look, the secret to having these talks succeed is to put all the leaders in a room and not let them come out until they have a deal coupled with a pledge to stop supporting incumbents, no matter who they are, if they buck the leadership.
That's because it's pretty clear that the Tea Party people do not have the same agenda as the leadership and the hardline Democrats care more about soaking the rich and cutting the Defense Department than they do about just about anything else, especially cutting entitlements.
So, it's pretty clear that unless you isolate the leadership away from the press and you press the extremes, something that can't happen unless President Obama pushes for it, we are going to have many more days like today and far fewer days like Friday.
Wouldn't it be something if Europe gets it together, China keeps growing and we slow the world down?
Do you think that a guy like Reid understands that?
Or does he just not care?
Or both?
