Very mild profit taking was quickly digested and now buyers are shaking the bushes looking for places to put money to work. Facebook (FB), for example, is looking to breakout over the December highs and Priceline (PCLN), Google (GOOG) and some of the other big-cap names are seeing follow-through.
On the speculative scan, solar energy is the hot sector, with SunPower (SPWR), First Solar (FSLR), JA Solar (JASO) and JinkoSolar (JKS) leading the action. I'm not seeing any other major themes at the moment, but I am surprised by select strength in retail.
The big move yesterday created a lot of pressure for relative performance, which will be good for speculative names if the hot money stays active. I always focus on trying to find the hot theme or group, and I'm going to make an even greater effort to do that this year.
A few names on my radar include Uni-Pixel (UNXL), TASER International (TASR), Security National Financial (SNFCA) and the solars. I am adding a position in AVEO Pharmaceuticals (AVEO) to the Sharkfolio.
